In this project, we carried out removal work for steel roofs installed on a highway. We had to keep road closure times to a minimum, so we utilized the "trailer plus jack system" method, a proven method of tunnel ceiling roof panel removal. This method of work is viable even when it isn't possible to utilize a crane. It also keeps materials confined to a trailer from removal through transportation, reducing the work time per day and overall work period.
Key Project Details and Requirements
1. Jack system improvements
We considered the conditions on the site in detail for this project, including factors like finishing work while the road was closed, the center of gravity of removed material and horizontal movement by it, and height limitations. After extensive deliberations, we ensured jack strokes had double the mobility, arranged for systems to adjust material positions during removal and transportation, and successfully arrived at a method that satisfied all requirements.
2. Improving jack systems through triple trial transportation and removal operations
With our client's support, we carried out triple trial transportation and removal operations (around 60 days). We produced simulated metal roofs with the same dimensions and weight as those for removal and ensured an equivalent transverse gradient to the actual road. We also adjusted trailer angles and other factors to reproduce actual on-site removal work in all ways. We made multiple passes during day and night testing, improving our approach in multiple passes to prepare for the real project.
